Hunter-ed.com offers online Texas hunter education course

With hunting seasons underway, Texas hunters are reminded of the need for hunter education. Instead of the traditional 10-hour classroom hunter safety course, students can choose the hunter-ed.com online course followed by a 4-6 hour field course led by a certified hunter education instructor.

DALLAS — With hunting seasons underway, Texas hunters are reminded of the need for hunter education. Instead of the traditional 10-hour classroom hunter safety course, students can choose the hunter-ed.com online course followed by a 4-6 hour field course led by a certified hunter education instructor. Hunter-ed.com's online hunter safety course material is free to the public. Students take the fast-paced hunter safety course online from the convenience of home as it fits their schedule. When they complete the online course, students pay $19.50 to print out a field day qualifier exam certificate that admits them to a mandatory field course (pre-registration required). The field course includes a skills trail, live firing exercise, ethics presentation, review and final hunter education exam. Successful students are then eligible to purchase a hunting license.

In addition to the online hunter education option, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has chosen hunter-ed.com to provide classroom hunter safety course manuals since 2004. The traditional classroom hunter education course averages 10-14 hours of instruction during two or more days. All hunter-ed.com students learn the same hunter education material, whether it's taught in the classroom course or online. Texas students can choose the hunters education learning method that's right for them.

"Hunter-ed.com, one of the online courses available, is uniquely qualified to meet the requirements of the Texas Hunter Education Program, said Terry Erwin, hunter education coordinator for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. "Their course content and presentation has been refined through extensive review by firearms safety and hunter education authorities within Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Hunter-ed.com saves students' time by offering the online course, which is part of hunter-ed's complete and consistent suite of hunter education materials. Remember to check availability of the required field course in your area before completing an online course."

Successfully completing a hunter education course is required for all Texas hunters born on or after September 2, 1971. Proof of hunter education is not required to purchase a hunting license, however, a hunter education certificate (or "deferral") must be carried while hunting.

About 30,000 students complete a Texas hunter education course each year, and the statistics show hunter education training is a success. Hunting accidents have been significantly reduced since hunter education became mandatory.

Since 2002, more than one million students have taken a hunter-ed.com hunter education course.

"We are gratified that so many state agencies and students have selected hunter-ed.com to be their hunter education partner," said Kurt Kalkomey, president of Kalkomey Enterprises, Inc. "Hunter-ed.com continually innovates so we can introduce more folks to the rich heritage of hunting. Our motto is 'Get safe, get certified' so you can maximize your enjoyment of the outdoors. These days, very few people can devote an entire weekend or multiple weeknights to take the 10-hour classroom hunting course. The hunter-ed.com online course saves time and money, and opens up hunting opportunities for young people."

Hunter-ed.com is a division of Kalkomey Enterprises, Inc., which publishes more than 190 hunter education products selected by 48 states. For more information about official hunter safety courses and state requirements for hunter education, please visit www.hunter-ed.com.
