Arkansas Game and Fish Department offers new online hunter safety course

Hunter-ed.com has launched a new Arkansas hunter education course, just in time for fall hunting seasons. Students take the fast-paced hunter safety course online when it fits their schedule, then complete their hunter education certification by taking a supervised hunter safety final exam at an official testing site. Students completing the hunter education course may then purchase an Arkansas hunting license.

DALLAS — Geared toward young people, hunter-ed.com's hunting safety course is narrated so students can listen, read or both. Quiz questions are read out loud and include pictures to help students recall what they've learned. Hundreds of detailed illustrations and animations give students a clear idea of what to expect once they're in the field. Although it's kid-friendly, the hunting and firearm safety content is very comprehensive. (www.hunter-ed.com/Arkansas)

"Our statistics show that Arkansas hunter safety courses save lives," said Joe Huggins, hunter education coordinator for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. "During the 2008-09 hunting season, we had a record low number of hunting accidents–only 12 accidents were reported. That's the lowest number since hunter education began in 1971."

Since 2002, more than one million students have taken a hunter-ed.com hunter safety course.

"We are gratified that so many state agencies and students have selected hunter-ed.com to be their hunter education partner," said Kurt Kalkomey, president of Kalkomey Enterprises, Inc. "Hunter-ed.com continually innovates so that we can introduce more folks to the rich heritage of hunting. Our motto is 'Get safe, get certified' so you can maximize your enjoyment of the outdoors. These days, very few people can devote an entire weekend or multiple weeknights to take a classroom hunting course. The hunter-ed.com online course saves time and money and opens up hunting opportunities for young people."

Successfully completing a hunter education course is mandatory for most Arkansas hunting license buyers born on or after January 1, 1969. In addition to the online hunter education option, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission selected hunter-ed.com to provide hunter safety courses via CD-ROM and traditional classroom student manuals.

"For folks who don't have time to attend an instructor-led class, we offer an online version and a CD-ROM course that can be completed at the student's convenience," said Huggins. "The final test must be taken in person at an official AGFC testing center, but the two computerized hunter education options make it easier for people to get their hunter education card."

Hunter-ed.com's Arkansas hunter safety course (www.hunter-ed.com/Arkansas) material is free to the public. Students pay $19.50 to print out the online course completion voucher that admits them to an in-person exam to complete their hunter education certification.
