Boat Ed® is proud to help promote National Safe Boating Week, May 20–26, the official launch of the 2017 North American Safe Boating Campaign. This year-long campaign promotes the value of voluntary, consistent life jacket wear by recreational boaters.
Boat Ed® is proud to support National Safe Boating Week and will be helping to raise awareness through Boat Ed® media channels. “During National Safe Boating Week, the entire boating safety community makes an extra effort to remind boaters about safe and responsible boating practices. Wear your life jacket, be alert on the water, don’t drink and operate, and plan ahead for emergencies,” said Mitch Strobl, VP of Agency Relations for Boat Ed®. “We want boaters to have fun out there, but we want folks to be safe as well. Just remember, your life jacket has your back…but only if you are wearing it.”
U.S. Coast Guard statistics show that drowning was the reported cause of death in three- fourths of the recreational boating fatalities in 2015 and that 85 percent of those who drowned were not wearing life jackets.
The new life jackets are much more comfortable, lightweight, and stylish compared with the bulky orange-style life jackets that most boaters know. There are innovative options, such as inflatable life jackets, that allow mobility and flexibility for activities like boating, fishing, paddling, or hunting and are much cooler in the warmer weather.
